Dr Tom Cassidy
was formerly the Director of the International Education Group
(IEG) at the Harvard
Graduate
School of Education and the Harvard
Institute for International Development. Currently working
primarily as a consultant to such organisations as the World Bank
and the World Economic Forum, he continues to chair professional
development institutes at both Harvard's Graduate School of
Education and the Kennedy School of Government. In his many years
at Harvard, Dr. Cassidy managed a portfolio of overseas development
projects, most of which focused on the development of
strategic planning and implementation of comprehensive
computer-based Education Management Information Systems
(EMIS). He has also chaired Harvard's annual professional
development seminars on Improving Quality in Education Systems for
the past seven years and Education Policy Analysis and Planning
Workshops for 12 years before that. In addition, Tom has taught
courses in educational planning and the development of education
management information systems to support policy development and
strategic planning.
From 1999-2000,
as the Director of Harvard's Institutes for Higher Education in the
Gulf, Tom resided in Abu Dhabi, UAE, where he conceived, developed,
managed and led sessions in a series of Harvard professional
development programmes for university administrators from all over
the Arab Gulf and Greater Middle East. He has served as an adviser
on educational planning, policy analysis and education information
system development to UNESCO's Director of Education for the Middle
East and North Africa (MENA). Dr. Cassidy currently acts as
an adviser to the World Economic Forum's Jordan and Egypt
Education Initiatives, pioneering efforts to build
public-private partnerships to support education reform and ICT
development in education.
